Lesson 2: God the Father Almighty

The Holy Trinity is 3 Divine Persons in one God. God the Father is the first person of the Holy Trinity.

HOLY TRINITY

3 eternal persons with equal power

  1. The FATHER is responsible for creation.
  2. The SON was sent to become man and save the world.
  3. The HOLY SPIRIT is in charge of guiding the Church and making its members holy.

Father —————————-> Creator

Son ———————————–> Savior

Holy Spirit ——————————> Sanctifier (makes you holy)

God’s life in us is SANCTIFYING GRACE the life of the Holy Trinity shared with us.

What is grace? GRACE is a share in God’s own life. A supernatural power to resist evil and do what is right and just.

Tape this to a page inside the notebook or have them draw this in their notebook

***** Read lesson 3 The Unity and Trinity of God in the St. Joseph Baltimore Catechism book #2 ******

We will go to the book of Exodus and read about Moses shepherding near Mt. Horeb when he heard God speak to him. Read Exodus 3: 1-15

God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say to the people of Israel, ‘I am has sent me to you.'” God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you’ this is my name for ever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout the generations…..”

Exodus 3:14-15

God called out to Moses. Moses asked God his name and God responded:

I AM WHO I AM

This is God’s personal, mysterious name. It means:

“He who is”

Source of all being

“I am with you”

God’s faithful love for us

For the Moses activity color and cut out the Moses paper doll or draw your own picture of Moses with the burning bush and tape it to the notebook. (Space is provided for the student to attach their picture or tape the cutout paper doll in the notebook. We have laminated it so it can be played with during the week.)

For the assignment page of the notebook we went used the Names of God: Blessed Trinity Graphic Organizer sheet from Look to Him and be Radiant. She explains how to approach this lesson and we encourage you to read her post. She has a few other Trinity activities that you can add to this lesson. We had the children cut out the sheet to fit inside the notebook and they are to brainstorm names to put inside of the three sections.

There are many names of God. Have you heard of this one? If not let’s look up this word and see what we can learn about its meaning and use.
